Artist’s Statement

RedemptionExploration and transformation are the common themes that run through much of my work. I often choose to paint animal or semi-human characters to reflect the conviction that we are all unfinished creatures still struggling to evolve, to transcend ourselves. Masks, costumes and stage lights emphasize the theatricality of these endeavors.

Web-like structures in many of my paintings represent an infinite labyrinth of possibilities that we are both shaping and exploring. I often paint on irregularly shaped canvas or board in order to suggest that each image is a fragment of a more complex larger picture.
